The story I am choosing to write about is the upcoming event of a sorority philanthropic golf tournament. This tournament took place the morning of April 5th. The event was a golf tournament in support of the Relay for Life fundraising organization. This event is sponsored by donors and there are multiple teams of four players each. Barry Switzer made an appearance in which I attempted to interview him, but he was swarmed with people at all times.

Amanda Taylor, a representative of Relay for Life and a fellow Delta Gamma sister, explained how this golf tournament was a great way to kick off spring in more ways than one. “There are many teams playing in today’s Relay for Life golf tournament. Delta Gamma is the team I am helping coordinate as a senior member of the chapter. There are multiple girls who had signed up to play. The best part is, it is free! Golf can get expensive and many people who already pay college tuition cannot afford a country club membership. On top of that, it is great to see people getting up and getting active and all for a great cause. The weather as of today is looking great for Tuesday, April 5th, so hopefully we can wish for a great evening.”

The event took place from 11 to 4 and was beneficial for everyone involved. The teams are getting to play a free 18-holes of golf while taking in the great spring weather. The money raised from the event will go to Relay for Life which has done and continues to do many events for students all over campus.

Golf is a calming sport and will help ease the growing stress off many student’s shoulders. I personally will be attending the event and am looking forward to seeing things from the inside and how being a part of a team can be fun. Many students playing in the tournament have not played sports or been on a team in many years, most likely high school. There were many photo opportunities which were fun and helpful to build more players for the next tournament through campus exposure. Many people posted about the tournament and shared photos.

The Delta Gamma team in which I participated in had already picked out matching pink outfits. This was to help us feel more like a true team and also, if you look good you feel good! There were a few prizes for the winner, this helped make it an even more competitive event. The event was unique and fun. Kayla Layman, a participant at the event, explained “Golf is a relaxing sport and fun for all ages. It is cool to see OU students coming together for a good cause and getting outside in the fresh air. I met a lot of new people and had a lot of fun, even though I definetly did not qualify for any prizes.”
